On Saturday, 24 January 2004, the Vietnamese Student Association (VSA) at WSU put together a special event commemorating the annual lunar new year. It was an opportunity to celebrate, and to give the community a closer look at this student organization.
The location was a small building on 21st Street, immediately next to Thái Bình Supermarket. The event was scheduled to begin at 12 noon, and by 12:30 it was totally packed. Students from Wichita State University as well from others from local high schools had come to see the once-a-yearly event. Special representatives from the local Vietnamese community were also on hand to see this celebration.
The VSA had put together quite a spectacular show with lion dances, a fashion show (with Vietnamese "áo bà ba," "áo ba tà" and "áo dài"), traditional dances and a computer slide shows that featured VSA activity pictures from this year's as well as those from the passing years...
Overall, the event was a major success for the VSA organization. Cabinet members had been working very hard for weeks in preparing for this special annual event. In the end, it was a big pwriterid-off as everyone felt extremely satisfied with the outcome. "The tradition continues," as one cabinet member had swriterid during the show. "This may seem like a small step for community, but it was a giant leap for an entire generation."
